If he was to get Italian citizenship somehow (!) i think he would get into our team, but should McLaren pick him in his squad with the European Championship in mind?

He's still get a role to play, I reckon. There is still nobody who can do what he can do, but there is also no problem with trying McClarens' flying wingers formation first.

If Becks is happy with a place on the bench to change things around later in a game if it's just not happening, then there is still a place for him. He's such a nice chap that I don't think his ego would get in the way of a bench-warming role.

He's still the best passer and crosser of the ball we have, we would be foolish to discard him so easily. He may not have the pace and dribbling ability of Lennon or Wright-Phillips but still retains a touch of class. I would have no hesitation bringing him back into the England team just as long as he kept his discipline and stayed out on the right, when he wanders to the centre and the left it disjoints the shape of the team and gives the opposition holes to go through. Quite frankly i'd like to see him play a right wing back role in a 3-5-2 system, with ashley cole on the left, Carrick in the holding role and Lampard and Gerrard free to maraude in the attacking midfield area, but hey judging by my results so far this season what the heck do i know !
